A TIRE-some PROBLEM

Members will recall back in January we asked dealers to tell us what problems they were encountering with tire collection in Ontario. The response was overwhelming.

We joined forces with other stakeholders, like the Ontario Tire Dealers Association, to apply pressure on the Ministry of Environment, the Minister Todd McCarthy and the regulator, the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority (RPRA) to wake up to the crisis.

We are pleased to report we have made progress and those in positions of power who can fix this problem are finally listening.

On May 1st we submitted our thoughts on the state of tire collection and recycling regulations through an open process organized by the Ministry, along with other stakeholders.

The latest development is that the RPRA are asking for information from tire collectors, in other words many of our members who sell tires and take in used ones.

They are trying to gain a better understanding of the needs of collectors who are not in the network, in order to better address them.

We strongly encourage all members who have used tires on site, waiting for collection and recycling, to report their situation through this process.
